About Curosurf 120 mg Injection

Curosurf 120 mg Injection contains Poractant Alfa, a natural surfactant extracted from porcine lung, used to treat and prevent neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (RDS).

Uses:
✔ Treatment of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in premature neonates
✔ Prophylaxis of RDS in high-risk preterm infants
✔ Supportive therapy for underdeveloped lungs in NICU settings

How Curosurf Works:
Poractant Alfa replenishes deficient or dysfunctional pulmonary surfactant in preterm infants. It reduces surface tension in the alveoli, improves lung compliance, and enhances oxygenation, crucial for breathing support in RDS.

Dosage & Administration:
Initial Dose: 100–200 mg/kg via intratracheal instillation
Repeat Dose: Up to two additional doses of 100 mg/kg at 12-hour intervals if needed
Route: Intratracheal (given directly into the infant’s lungs)
Setting: Administered by trained neonatology staff in NICU
Monitoring: Continuous cardiorespiratory and oxygen saturation monitoring required

Common Side Effects:
Bradycardia (slow heart rate)
Transient oxygen desaturation
Airway obstruction
Pulmonary hemorrhage
Apnea

Serious Side Effects (Seek Medical Help):
⚠ Severe pulmonary hemorrhage
⚠ Pneumothorax (collapsed lung)
⚠ Increased ventilator dependency
